By merging this ground-level data with satellite analyses, the dashboard's predictive capabilities could forecast food production deficits across the island and highlight gaps in accessibility through machine learning algorithms.
However, Hawaii's distinct agricultural landscape presents hurdles. The state hosts over 7,300 small farms, often perched on rugged terrains, making large-scale machinery impractical. Labor-intensive manual labor replaces automated processes, impacting productivity and elevating costs.
This technology aims to address these challenges, aiding long-term planning and adaptation in agriculture. Leveraging NASA data, the dashboard can identify potential areas for farm expansion over time. It could unveil reasons for crop struggles in specific regions and suggest alternative crops better suited for those conditions.
